REFLECTION
One of my most memorable experiences is my first event in high school, which is the Mid-Autumn Festival.
First time studying in high school,I had a chance to take part in my school's Mid-Autumn Festival,a traditional festival in Vietnam. In this event, all classes had to decorate their tents and fruit trays carefully before being judged by the president of school. As a result,I and my classmates planned together to gain an excellent performance in the festival.
Unfortunately, since we did not know each other before,it was difficult for us to reach an agreement in the process of our plan. For example, while some did not want to follow other people, others felt uninterested in the festival. As the leader of my class, had to operate a vote so as to find out the consistency in my class. Besides, encouraging the ones who found the festival boring to mingle with the event,I told them that this was a good chance for us to mix with each other. Our work then became more ordered.
However, the problem hadn’t stopped. Due to the poor quality of the electricity system in the festival, the tent of my class did not have the electricity like most other classes. We were all really disappointed as we needed electricity to show our detailed decoration. Everyone then became more and more annoyed and desperate.
In this situation,I understood that I needed to find out the solution for my class.  Due to no electricity,I suggested that we should change our plan by using the darkness to transport a meaningful message to the school president. We then used our mobile phones to lighten the rent as much as possible in order to help the school president see our decoration. After apologizing the school president for our darkness,we told him that the darkness in our rent was not only a bad thing. It was also a great thing because it helped us understand the numerous difficulty people in remote areas had been facing with. As a result,we would probably need to appreciate the good living conditions we were having now.
Although our class did not achieve the expected performance in the event, the school president praised our flexibility in this difficult situation. Our class, therefore, felt very happy.
From this experience,I realize that the role of the leader is very important for the group. He is the one that needs to not only manage his group work efficiently but also keep it stable even in the worst situation. While other members become more discouraged,he must be different, particularly he must be the one leading them to overcome the troubles.
In conclusion,my experience in high school brought me a golden chance to have valuable learning of leadership. I know that in order to become a good leader in the future,it’s necessary for me to keep improving my leadership skills.

  1. Doanh,

A very interesting reflection. I am pleased you learned the importance of leadership roles and team work at such a young age. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. Overall, this is a very good piece of reflection. You articulated your ideas well, illustrated your point with clear example, and you successfully linked your ideas from past, present and future.

    1. Write concisely:
it was difficult for us to reach an agreement ‘in the process of our plan’ = planning

    2. Complete the meaning of sentences:
As the leader of my class, + WHO HAD TO? + had to operate (VOCABULARY = CONDUCT VOTES) a vote so as to find out the ‘consistency in my class.’ = MAJORITY VIEW?

    3. Don’t overuse pronouns: There is no noun (people) which the pronouns refer to.
Besides , (INCORRECT USE OF COMMA) encouraging the ones who found the festival boring to mingle with the event,I told them that this was a good chance for us to mix with each other.

    4. We will be talking about present (has) and past (had) perfect tenses in class, look over your use of past perfect tense after our class discussion and see if you could spot how they should be used.
    -However, the problem hadn’t stopped.
-It was also a great thing because it helped us understand the numerous difficulty people in remote areas had been facing with.

    5. Write concisely:
    …the tent of my class… = ???

    6. wrong verb form ‘lighten’ and rent or tent?
We then used our mobile phones to lighten the rent as much as possible

    7. Singular/plural noun: numerous = more than 1
It was also a great thing because it helped us understand the numerous difficulty people in remote areas had been facing with.

    8. Parallel structure?
He is the one that needs to not only manage his group work efficiently but also keep it stable even in the worst situation.

    9. Avoid using gender biased language (i.e. he or she) in writing:
He is the one that needs to not only manage his group

    10. Be precise: What does ‘different’ mean here?
Be concise: how can you replace ‘different’ here and cut down words
While other members become more discouraged,he must be different, particularly he must be the one leading them to overcome the troubles.
